Kentucky Learnin

This last week I learned what it really means to have faith like a child. At first thought, child-like faith is easily passed off as a synonym to ignorance, but really it’s something altogether different and really wonderful.

I met the most adorable four year old boy on a service trip to Kentucky. His name was Jeff Roger Michael. How much more Kentuckian can you get? Well, he had no concept of God or any knowledge about the Bible and what it says so I took some time to tell him a little. I gave him the basic rundown about who God is and what he did- from the garden of Eden to Christ’s crucifixion. I told him that it was a true story, and hence very important- and he listened.

The next day, when I arrived at the worksite with my team, little Jeff Roger comes running up to me and the first thing he says is that he remembered the story and even talked to his mom about it. So heart warming.

So all in all, it was encouraging to see such a young boy listen and believe in God without skepticism or doubt. He just accepted. For us to believe like that is a lot harder because we’ve been exposed to so many conflicting views on life and what comes labeled as truth, but I know it’s possible and that we’re called to believe like a child.

I don’t know if Jeff will remember what I told him in a year or even a month from now, but I just pray that I might have sown some seeds- because I know that God has the power to grow those seeds into something wonderful.

If you were too lazy to read all that- that’s okay, chunks of words scare me too. So here are some photos with minimal words! Yay! :)

One night, this guy darted outside and grabbed something out of the air- he came back in with a luna moth! It was incredible!

Here’s our worksite- the lady we were working for had seven dogs. SEVEN.

There was a secret lake that we could walk to from our campsite. It was gorgeous and we found a turtle.

Here’s where we lived for a week. They were lovingly referred to as ‘birdhouses’ but even that’s generous.

So that’s it for now :)

Here’s a pretty recent piece. I did it mainly as a study on facial shading and such. :)

“Revolution 9” This is without a doubt the strangest Beatles song ever (if you can even call it a song) - it’s essentially a collection of noises. It’s called ‘revolution 9’ because the words “number nine, number nine, number nine” are repeated throughout. Creepy creepy song. ahaha

Nocturna

The other day, while doing that wasting-time-on-the-internet thing I do, I came across a trailer for an animated film titled, “Nocturna.” It looked wonderfully animated and fantastical so I found it on youtube and watched it- I was not disappointed in the least!

The characters were charming and the amount of artistic talent condensed into the film was just brilliant! Now, it is a children’s movie- so the plot is fairly simple, but I loved it nonetheless. It’s done by a Spanish animation company but the English dub is pretty good.

Here’s a link to part one on youtube if anyone is interested in watching it- I highly recommend it to anyone who’s into animation or who just loves charming movies

Here’s some cool shots from the film:
